Snow biking
Turns out you can mountain bike in a foot of snow. Going down hill. Trying to go up hill, rear tire kept slipping and then the bike would slide out from under me. Sigh. Turns out it’s a pretty good aerobic workout, though. Snowshoeing is supposed to also be aerobic so I wonder if there’s some way to combine the two.

Dear English Language,
love-and-radiation:
Thank you for mutating with such regularity, even if I don’t like all your permutations.
The embiggening of the English lexicon is perfectly cromulent in every way. And while some neologisms may impinge on the ossicles like a cacemphaton, rest assured, this effusion will not incrassate in your infundibulum auricular passages but instead will accommodate the distention of...

“The disillusioned are those who weren’t listening in the campaign or not watching closely in the first year. The right has failed to register his steeliness and persistence and the left has preferred to ignore his temperamental and institutional conservatism. Both sides still misread him — hence the spluttering gloom. And there is indeed something dispiriting about the...

The betrayal of the smart sons
Having recently read a dyspeptic and grouchy, but eye-opening, look at the fix we’re in - 15 Signs American Society Is Coming Apart at the Seams, by David DeGraw - it occurred to me that there are all sorts of possible theories to explain what’s happened to American Civilization… its astonishing plummet from the richest,...
